REDEO
The New Sustainable Deodorant
Problem Statement
The global market for deodorant and antiperspirant is estimated to reach $94.33 B in revenue by 20251. The growing dependence on deodorant is seen from a survey conducted by Streetbees, involving 3000 people worldwide. However, with every deodorant comes hard plastic packaging. The top 10 deodorant brands from the US alone generates 329.6M units of single-use plastic packaging for applicators, which are immediately thrown away after use. This contributes to a worldwide environmental crisis, bringing irreversible effects to our environment. Currently, 46,000 pieces of plastic can be found per square mile in the ocean, affecting 700 marine species.
The design opportunity is to create a deodorant applicator that is ergonomic and easy to use, and must be aesthetically sophisticated to encourage long-term use. The applicator should follow the ACT framework and focus on rousing visceral attraction. This emotional response can improve user-product relationship, encouraging users to take greater care for the applicator.
